Going and Giving

‘Some people give back to God by going to the world, others go by giving.’ Kim Collingsworth

Pictionary is one of the most frustrating games I’ve played. The aim of Pictionary is to guess a specific word by looking at a picture your teammate is drawing. Once you guess correctly, you can advance across the game board, and the first team to reach the end wins. Sounds simple -- right?? Unless you are an incredible artist this game is not easy. There have been so many times I have ended up frustrated because my team hasn’t been able to figure out the answer from my drawings. It makes total sense that a circle with eight legs next to some musical notes indicates the nursery rhyme ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider’... maybe not!

While for some of us the game is just a game, for others this is a small glimpse into the reality they face every day.

Deaf children in Reynosa Mexico, are faced with the daily challenge of trying to communicate with their family and friends. Many grow up without any formal education and never really connect with anyone simply because they are unable to hear or speak.

In 2006 Isaiah 55 Ministries started a school for the deaf, Instituto Isaías 55, to introduce children to the language, Mexican Sign Language (LSM), through which they are able to learn Spanish and receive an education based on a Christian Worldview.

‘God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and His Spirit has made you holy.’ 1 Peter 1:2

Every day the team is showing these students that they are all fearfully and wonderfully made for a purpose. They are reminded that their challenges don’t define them or decrease their value in God’s eyes.

In 2019, GlobalGrace missionary Keila Aleman accepted an internship at Isaiah 55 ministries. She shares ‘... I have seen what He [God] is doing in the deaf community….[and] I have seen God’s grace in growing relationships with the deaf and being able to pour into their lives.’ Your support has provided the training and support Keila needs in order to continue to serve this community.

Your support not only enables students to have a voice but also brings families together! The school also works with parents and teaches them Mexican Sign Language (LSM) so they can connect with their children and communicate effectively.

Today, would you prayerfully consider making a financial investment in GlobalGrace? Your generous gift allows you to join Keila and the team at Isaiah 55 Ministries as they commit to giving value and a voice to deaf children and their families?
