In rural Tanzania there are no secondary schools that can meet the educational needs of Datooga students. Building a Christian secondary school in the Datooga community will allow education of students in their own bush community and increase the likelihood that they will return to their villages to minister and serve in the future. This will result in well-trained Christian educators offering great education and intense discipleship.

The Datooga are a remote, semi-nomadic tribe who live difficult lives in arid areas where water is difficult to obtain. They suffer from poor nutrition, infectious disease, and high infant mortality rates. Families rely on younger children for labor and young teenage girls are often forced into arranged marriages. Most of the Datooga practice animism and witchcraft. Only about 4% of the Datooga are Christians and most have not had the opportunity to hear the gospel.

The literacy rate among Datooga communities is only 1% and there are few schools out in the bush. The government only provides primary schooling up to grade 7. Secondary schools are private boarding schools that are far removed from the Datooga areas. Secondary school opportunities are also very limited due to spiritual, financial and cultural barriers.

The new school will address the needs of God’s children in this remote area of Tanzania. Programming will include vocational training in ministry, agriculture, healthcare and education. This school compound will also be used for educational and ministry outreach to the adults in the surrounding community.
