Good Grief

One thing we all have in common…. None of us have ever experienced a global pandemic --- until now!

Changing the ways we work, shop, educate, worship, eat, exercise, and celebrate causes people to lose their sense of control, and security. Consequently, we are forced to deal with (or try to ignore) a flood of feelings, anxieties, and emotions, that are unlike anything we have ever known.

People are experiencing various forms of grief during the COVID-19 pandemic. Grief is an expected response to the loss of a loved one, but we also experience grief in response to the loss of routine and things that bring stability and comfort. The loss of employment, a predictable future, and the ability to make one's own decisions affect a person's overall health and sense of identity and wellbeing.

“Grief is a natural response to loss and is unavoidable. It is normal to the human experience. However, healing through grief is optional, and unfortunately, too many people do not allow the grief process to do its healing wonders. In order to accomplish this healing, a person should simply accept that grief is normal and unavoidable. Many people instead hang on to some myths that can block the healing process”.
