Refugee Lifeline

For our refugee friends, a mobile phone is as important as food and water when moving around seeking new life. Some of the refugees have the most up-to-date phones found on the face of the earth — of course not all do.  For an uprooted person, these little devices are a lifeline, dictating almost everything in their lives and this is usually their only way to stay in touch with family and friends everywhere.

It is not a surprise that refugees have to frequently hand over their mobiles to the authorities for examination for various reasons. One could say that everything in their phone is a mirror of their lives...both good and bad. All their contacts are right there and easily available. Some of them have God's Word hidden on the phone too. It's smarter than having a big black Bible sitting on your bed in the middle of a camp full of eyes.

It is not uncommon to see the refugees communicating almost constantly ....including when they attend  Bible study. We are in the process of trying to wean them away from this for a couple of hours while they are following the study...but their little phones often compete for their attention. Do you know what I mean?

Mobile phone distraction is something I guess we all face....but in a refugee’s life, it is a magnified addiction. I'm glad the FATHER did not use any technology to introduce his son JESUS to us for new direction in life. He came personally and is our GPS.
