Welcome Home
Asian culture is very relational and family oriented. People are more inclined to listen to the gospel if they have a personal connection with you. Church services are very effective, for those who come… but there are so many others who may never come to church – unless a relationship has been established. So, we bring the church to them.
While we do reach out to our community through our Sunday worship, our team has been spending an increasing amount of time on local house visits. This allows us to visit a personal connection we have, and minister to the family in their own home. In Asian culture, visiting a person’s home is a really effective way to build relationships and bridge the gap between everyday life and church, which is a very wide gap for Buddhist people. Recently during one of these house visits, two people trusted Jesus as Savior and Lord!
At another house visit, we learned of a really sad situation. We visited the house of a young girl who had been attending our church for a couple months. She lives with her parents and baby brother. The night we visited, her dad was laid out on the floor with alcohol poisoning. After we left, we heard that her dad had disappeared. Finally, he was found dead a few days later. It was discovered that the dad had been drunk, fell into a water ditch and drowned.
This family is extremely poor, and now that the dad has died, they have no means of making a living since the mom has to take care of her baby and young daughter. The daughter has come back to the church a couple of times, but the family still needs much prayer. The church is pursuing options to care for this family. Pray for this family and pray for the church as they continue to visit hurting and needy families in their community!
God is at work in Thailand, and we are so excited to be a part of it!
